I have conducted in an
interview with the 59 year old, Eid Obeid Al Senani. Mr. Eid is a close friend
of the family and has a number of camels. Eid has told me about his fascination
with camels ever since he was a kid as it was a main source of food back in the
days. I asked him how he thinks the sport of camel racing evolved along the
years here in the UAE. He told me about the beginning that when he was a kid in
the 1960s there were no official races and it was mainly done within the tribe
itself on big occasions. He added that as a kid he would take care of the
camels his family owned with the help of his older brother, Mohamed, and 2
younger brothers, Mubarak and Khalid. Eid spoke of how now the camel racing
gets more attention and care from the government as opposed to the old times. I
then asked him about what it takes to have a winning camel. He explained to me
that he does not personally participate with his camels but is only an
enthusiast of the sport. But for a camel to be a good racing camel it would
have to be from a good breed, and that is very hard to find. A friend of mine,
he said, bought a camel for 1.5 million dirhams because her mother won races
and thus has a good breed. The care the camels get also is a big factor in
preparing them for races. I asked Eid about any memorable races he witnessed in
the past or in the present. He mentioned to me a race which he participated in,
in his teen years. It was the only race in which he took part. He was the
jockey and he rode the best camel they owned. Unfortunately for him he ended up
being the second to last. What is evident from the interview with Mr. Eid is
that the sport has gone a long way from its humble beginnings to how widespread
it is now. Not only that, but now technology is more involved in the sport.

Reflective Essay
In conducting this case study we worked in groups so as to divide the work load between each other, and make it easier to do the case study. We decided to choose Abu Dhabi Country Club because it holds a variety of sports and leisure activities, and to show people what it offers. I think many of the students including myself did not know the great things that the club has to offer, so it was a good thing to learn and know that facilities like the ones in Abu Dhabi Country Club are there. The group collected information about the club by firstly researching it on the internet and learning more about it. Then we decided to visit the place to have a more in-depth look at the place, which helped us make our final decision.
In our project we conducted two interviews. One was with the personal trainer in the gym and the other was with the marketing director of the club. Both interviews were helpful and provided us with the information we wanted. The marketing director shared with us that the club has more than 2000 members of which there are many VIPs with the likes of ambassadors who are frequent users of the club. He also shared with us that 65% of the members were expats and the rest were locals. This was against what I expected. Before knowing the information I expected that the number of locals would be higher especially because the club is government owned. The information we got from the case study has everything to do with this course. The personal trainer in the gym gave us an overview of how the trainer tailors the training to what the member is looking for, whether it was fitness or body building. He also said that the gym trainers do not give dietary plans, which I found was strange, due to the fact that they are not specialized in diets but can only give advice on what to eat ot what not to eat. The information thee marketing director and the personal trainer provided us with helped us in learning more about the case study.
The main skill needed to conduct the case study, in my opinion, would be communication skill. Communication plays a major part in doing the project, because you would need to ask for permission from the place you are visiting then get an official letter from HCT to go ahead and film the facilities. Not only that but communication skills are also required when conducting the interviews. The interviewer should be able to share his ideas and what he is looking for clearly in order to get the results that he wants. Other skills would be organization and team work. Having to work in groups these skills are required for the group to do their work in the best way possible with every member doing his share of work. I do not think that the subject of our case study would take any action as we provided the paperwork they asked for and we had their permission to film. We have also represented their facilities in the best way we could through our video. During our visit we were accompanied by the marketing director and we did everything to the limits we were given. If we were to do the case study again, I think that it would have been a good idea to film the place at night to give another view of the club and what it has to offer for the night activities. This, I think would have improved the outcome of the project.
